PLC Programmer (Automation Systems)

Bespoke Intelligent Automation / Robotic Systems
Ballymena
£45-55K depending on experience
Full time permanent role Mon to Friday daytime hours

Our client is an established company who operates in a very niche industry. They are part of a much larger firm and have a design and manufacturing location outside Ballymena. They are presently expanding locally and due to this; they have a requirement for an experienced PLC Programmer or Software Automation Engineer to join their team. The company offer strong stability and job security with an established client list that spans right across various industry's based around the world.

This is an exciting role within a developing and growing business which has an unrivalled reputation globally as a leading designer and manufacturer of high-speed automated machinery. The role is reporting directly into the Operations Manager (Northern Ireland)

Working in a dedicated team of industry professionals you will provide a creative and problem-solving solution to a range of ground breaking projects. Primarily you will assist in the development of specialist bespoke equipment for the medical devices and FMCG industry sectors. Customer focus is key and you will be liaising daily with a multinational blue-chip client base.

The role of PLC Programmer / Software:

  • Be responsible for the creation and development of machine software solutions for special purpose automated machinery projects
  • Deliver control and safety systems which comply with the appropriate national and international standards
  • Programming and commissioning of various robots
  • Test and debug software applications and produce detailed test plans
  • Produce software documentation
  • Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers and team members
  • Be responsible for testing within the factory test and on customer sites
  • Be part of a team dedicated to delivering projects to plan and budget


Essential criterial for this PLC Programming / software role:

  • HNC/Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Software Engineering
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrate a proven track record of successfully delivering machine control system projects to required timescale and budget
  • Experienced in automation and production machinery design, ideally with a hands-on approach
  • Experience working with PLC and software applications
  • Experience of working with vision systems


Ideally knowledge and experience of some of the following:

  • Robotic systems
  • HMI development
  • Ethernet devices
  • PC based systems
  • Communications protocols (e.g. TCP/IP)
  • Configuration of networks
  • Motion control equipment
  • Ideally the ability to code in visual basic and or C++
