Manufacturing Powering Northern Ireland's Economy
Minister for the Economy, Dr. Caoimhe Archibald MLA, has kicked off Manufacturing NI’s (MNI) Manufacturing Month by unveiling the impactful Manufacturing and the Northern Ireland Economy report during a visit to MJM Marine in Newry.
The report underscores the powerhouse role of manufacturing in Northern Ireland, contributing over £6 billion to the economy, making it the second-largest sector after retail and wholesale. With manufacturing accounting for 13.4% of total economic output, the sector also represents 17% of private sector jobs and 21% of turnover, despite comprising just 6% of private businesses.
In 2023, nearly 100,000 jobs were rooted in manufacturing, with the sector indirectly supporting a staggering 250,000 jobs across the region, that’s one in four jobs in the NI economy. The report also reveals that for every £1 million generated by manufacturing, the total economic value rises to £1.7 million, highlighting the sector’s crucial multiplier effect.
Vickerstock is proud to sponsor Manufacturing Month, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to supporting the manufacturing sector in Northern Ireland and celebrating its vital contribution to the local economy.
As part of Manufacturing Month, MNI is hosting a series of events, including the Anchor High Summit, a key leadership gathering set to take place in Belfast on 29th May, get your tickets here
