What does the DART+ Project mean?
The Coastal North Railway Order has been approved byAn Coimisiún Pleanála, with the South Coastal expanded electrification route also having been approved. Approval for these orders suggests that this project will soon begin construction on the expanded travel zones, paving the way for a large-scale expansion of Dublin and the surrounding areas, potentially merging them into the city.
Job Opportunities
This €600m project will create over 14,000 construction jobs across the duration of the project! This is going to provide a huge boost to the local community and economy.Drogheda Lifebreaks down the key details of the projecthere.
The key question is, which contractors will get to work on the DART+...
Housing
The growth of the city means there will be more housing to come. Construction companies and the government are already working to tackle the housing crisis in Dublin, with 300,000 more houses planned before 2030. These new transport links will allow people to live further from Dublin, while easily maintaining jobs in the city, and allow for more housing along the route.
House prices in close proximity to the DART will likely see changes to their value. Easy access to public transportation is likely to increase value; however, if you're too close to the tracks, we may see a slight decrease in value.
Growth
The expansion of the DART system lays a clear path for the expansion of Dublin, potentially merging local towns and communities into the city. As our population increases and more companies move into Dublin, the city is forced to grow either upwards or outwards, and it seems they've decided on outwards.
Local Areas
People living in close proximity to the DART+ route will have to adjust to this new piece of infrastructure in their local area. However, they'll now have easier access to Greater Dublin, less time spent in traffic and easy access to green initiatives. Over 600,000 people will live within 1km of a DART station!
Travel
Travel across Leinster will become easier, with increased public transport, we may see more commuters opting for the DART over their cars. In turn, this may further Return-To-Office policies and wider hiring fields for companies
There are plenty more changes, challenges and benefits to come to the DART+ project, which we'll be keeping a close eye on. However, overall, this project looks to be a huge and exciting change for Dublin's landscape
