Job description

Assistant Operations Manager - FMCG / Food Production
Location: North Down
Salary: £45-55k

Our Food Manufacturing Client is a premium producer of high-quality products, renowned for their commitment to traditional craftsmanship, sustainability, and innovation. Due to continued growth and internal development, they are now seeking an Assistant Operations Manager to support the day-to-day running of their production operations.

This is very much a hands-on leadership role in a business who value innovation, integrity, and excellence. You will be part of a passionate team that takes pride in producing premium products while continuously improving how they work. If you are a driven food production professional looking to step into a broader leadership role and influence positive change, this could be the role for you.

Your day to day:

  • Deliver production KPIs including output, yield, waste, and quality.
  • Lead team meetings and ensure clear communication across production lines.
  • Support Technical and Operations Managers in audit readiness.
  • Train and develop team members on safety, SOPs, and equipment use.
  • Promote a strong health & safety culture, ensuring all PPE and hygiene protocols are met.
  • Contribute to lean initiatives and structured problem-solving practices.
  • Maintain accurate records and oversee efficient shift handovers.

Your essential ingredients

  • Proven leadership experience in a fast-paced FMCG or food production environment.
  • Strong supervisory and team development skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations (BRC, HACCP, allergen control).
  • A practical understanding of health & safety in a factory setting.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Strong organisation, planning, and IT literacy (Microsoft Office, production systems).

And even better if you have:

  • Background in dairy production or chilled food manufacturing.
  • Experience with continuous improvement tools and lean manufacturing practices.
