Vickerstock are pleased to be working with a specialist MEICA contractor operating within the water sector. They are looking to appoint an Electrical Design Engineer to join their team in Newry. This is a newly created role to supplement their existing skillsets in Mechanical & Process Engineering design. This is an opportunity for an engineer with water industry experience to take on a key technical position.

Your new role as Electrical Design Engineer
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will deliver electrical design solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the island of Ireland, working closely with multi-disciplinary project teams. Your work will span the design of low-voltage systems, PLC control integration and cabling infrastructure for pumping stations, treatment works and associated electrical installations.
Key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and developing electrical systems for water and wastewater projects, with a focus on low voltage distribution, control panels, PLC integration and cabling design.
  • Producing detailed electrical schematics, cable schedules, panel layouts and design documentation.
  • Coordinating with civil, mechanical and instrumentation teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems.
  • Supporting project delivery from concept through detailed design and into construction/commissioning support.
  • Preparing technical reports, risk assessments and specifications compliant with industry standards and water sector requirements.
  • Liaising with clients, contractors, statutory bodies and suppliers to resolve technical issues and optimise designs.
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians.
  • Assisting with design reviews, testing procedures, and quality assurance throughout project lifecycles.

What you'll need to succeed as an Electrical Design Engineer
To be considered for this role, you should demonstrate:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline.
  • Proven experience in electrical design engineering, ideally within the water sector or infrastructure environment.
  • Strong experience in low voltage electrical design, cabling design and PLC system integration.
  • Competence with electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, E-Plan, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with water/wastewater industry standards, regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills with strong attention to detail and project organisation.
  • Experience with high voltage systems is an advantage, though not essential.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

What's in it for you?
In return, you'll receive a competitive salary and benefits package that includes:

  • Competitive base salary, reflecting your experience.
  • Generous annual leave allowance.
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
  • Professional development support and paid professional membership.
  • Career progression opportunities within a reputable and growing engineering consultancy.
  • Inclusive company culture with a focus on collaboration, learning and technical excellence.
