Job description
Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading food processing organisation on the appointment of a Health, Safety and Environmental Manager.
As the Health, Safety & Environmental Manager, you will take ownership of all site-based Health, Safety and Environmental activities, ensuring legal compliance, maintaining standards, and driving a culture of continuous improvement. Working closely with senior management and operational teams, you will provide guidance, training, and hands-on leadership to maintain a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible operation.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HSE professional to join a high-performing business and play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture and sustainable environmental performance across the site.
In your new role:
- Advising site management and employees on all Health, Safety and Environmental matters, ensuring compliance with legislation and company policies
- Leading safety and environmental meetings, audits, and inspections, ensuring that actions and improvements are implemented effectively
- Coordinating workplace risk assessments and developing safe systems of work in collaboration with department managers
- Managing accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, ensuring effective root cause analysis and follow-up
- Maintaining and improving site HSE management systems, including ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
- Ensuring statutory records, permits, and fire safety documentation are maintained and up to date
- Liaising with enforcement authorities, insurers, and auditors, maintaining positive working relationships
- Preparing and submitting HSE reports, metrics, and performance data to senior management
- Overseeing waste management processes to ensure compliance and environmental best practice
- Supporting and promoting sustainability initiatives across the business
What you will need to succeed:
- NEBOSH Certificate or Diploma (or equivalent qualification)
- Experience in an HSE management role, ideally within manufacturing, food processing, or a similar regulated environment
- Strong knowledge and experience of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
- In-depth understanding of UK Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and best practice
- Excellent leadership, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to engage teams at all levels
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure and to deadlines
- IT proficiency (MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):
- Experience working within the food production or FMCG sector
- Knowledge of environmental permitting, waste management legislation and sustainability reporting
- Additional environmental or safety qualifications (e.g. IEMA membership or NEBOSH Environmental Certificate)
