Job description

Vickerstock are working in partnership with a industry leading, manufacturing firm based in Lisburn on the appointment of a Logistics Coordinator.

Reporting directly to the Purchasing Manager you will be responsible for managing external freight forwarding agents, liaising with both suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure the efficient and effective inbound flow of materials.

In your new role:

Planning

  • Allocate supplier shipments to optimum routes and transport modes based on cost, transit time and product type
  • Monitor information received from freight forward partners to identify risks including bottle necks and poor performance
  • Highlight risks and opportunities to the Purchasing and Warehouse Teams to ensure timely decisions are made
  • Drive efficiencies to improve transportation methods to deliver cost, quality, and delivery benefits
  • Attend weekly meetings to agree delivery schedules for all sites and follow through until delivered

Lead time

  • Monitor and challenges transit time variations
  • Be aware of local, national and international risks and take action to mitigate them

Cost

  • Manage costs through negotiating new rates
  • Be aware of market trends
  • Ensure our freight forwarders are adding value to our business
  • Identify risks of quay rent and demurrage charges and liaise with Warehouse and Purchasing teams to mitigate
  • Ensure invoices are correct and approved in time to meet payment terms

Legislation

  • Manage all paperwork and documentation associated with all freight movements
  • Ensure HMRC import / export compliance including keeping the business compliant with all regulatory requirements
  • Prepare instructions for customs declarations to send to freight forwarders and their agent to declare relevant Tariff's, Values etc
  • Follow up and keep record of customs entries and checking against correct values in line with HMRC Import / Export compliance, challenge and recover incorrect payments as and well identified
  • Monitor our use of commodity codes to ensure they remain current and accurate

Control

  • Produce reports on a regular basis for Senior Management
  • Liaise with suppliers to prepare documentation for import declarations and keep track of BOL, Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists etc
  • Manage local subcontractors and other freight forwarders
