Job description

Vickerstock are proud to be working in partnership with one of Northern Ireland's leading utilities providers to recruit a Wastewater Scientific Officer based in Belfast.

The Role
As a Wastewater Scientific Officer, you will support the performance and optimisation of wastewater treatment works and sewer network processes within your designated area. You'll use your technical knowledge and analytical skills to ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient running of key wastewater operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake on-site testing and sampling at wastewater treatment sites to assess process performance.

  • Identify and investigate poor process performance, ensuring appropriate laboratory testing and reporting.

  • Analyse sampling data using LIMS to recommend corrective actions and process improvements.

  • Liaise with Environmental Regulation teams and operational staff to mitigate pollution risks and maintain compliance.

  • Validate process control instrumentation and support root cause analysis for non-conforming results.

  • Manage sampling schedules, onsite testing equipment, and inventory using Oracle.

  • Provide training, guidance, and support to operational teams to promote best practice and ensure data integrity.

  • Participate in technology trials and innovation initiatives to improve performance and environmental outcomes.

  • Take part in an on-call rota, responding to pollution incidents and liaising with external stakeholders.

Essential Criteria

  • A Level (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific or environmental subject.

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a water or wastewater scientific role.

  • Good understanding of wastewater treatment processes and analytical techniques.

  • Awareness of health and safety requirements in wastewater operations.

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Full current driving licence (as use of a company vehicle is required).

Additional Information

  • This role is based in Belfast and covers the Eastern region.

  • Participation in an on-call rota will be required.
