Senior Machine Operator
Cookstown
Vickerstock are delighted to be partnering with a well-established food manufacturing business located in the Cookstown area. They are known for high quality, continuous improvement, and an inclusive working environment.
In this key role you will take ownership of a production line - operating, maintaining and optimising equipment to deliver excellent output, minimal downtime and consistent product quality. You will also play a vital part in handover communication, training other team members, and working closely with engineering and warehouse colleagues.

Your day to day as the successful Senior Machine Operator
Efficient Operation & Communication
- Operate, monitor, and adjust all production line equipment to achieve production targets.
- Support machine setup, changeovers, and end-of-shift run-downs.
- Ensure correct materials and settings are used throughout each shift.
- Communicate clearly with Production, Warehouse, and Engineering teams to maintain smooth workflow.
- Prepare lines and work areas for the following day's production.
Quality & Health & Safety
- Perform regular quality and CCP checks to maintain product standards.
- Identify and isolate any defective or non-conforming products.
- Follow all site Health & Safety and Food Safety policies at all times.
- Support quality checks in the absence of the Quality Assistant.
Maintenance & Continuous Improvement
- Carry out basic maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication of machinery to prevent breakdowns.
- Diagnose and resolve minor faults quickly to reduce downtime.
- Record downtime and maintenance activities accurately.
- Work collaboratively with the Engineering team to resolve technical issues and prevent reoccurrence.
- Contribute ideas and feedback to improve equipment performance and production efficiency.
Teamwork & Leadership
- Lead daily machine start-ups and participate in shift handovers.
- Provide training and guidance to team members on machine operation and safety procedures.
- Ensure team members on the line are well-informed and competent in their roles.
- Organise and communicate staff breaks to maintain continuous line operation.
Your essential ingredients:
- Experience operating machinery in a food manufacturing or FMCG environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to carry out basic maintenance.
- Attention to detail and commitment to product quality and safety.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work to targets in a fast-paced production environment.
And even better if you have this (however not a deal breaker)…
- Experience with fault-finding or working alongside engineering teams.
- Knowledge of HACCP and CCP procedures.
- Formal mechanical or technical training/certification.
