This is a key permanent position within a company that is recognised for its technical innovation, precision engineering, and forward-thinking approach to automation and manufacturing.

About the Role: The Senior Design Engineer will lead the delivery of high-quality design solutions using SolidWorks and AutoCAD, ensuring all products and systems are developed to the highest standards of performance, safety, and reliability. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, the successful candidate will contribute to product development, continuous improvement, and the creation of advanced automated systems for industrial applications.

This role requires a hands-on technical leader capable of managing projects from initial concept through to production handover, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring best-in-class engineering practices across the department.

Key Responsibilities - Senior Mechanical Design Engineer:

  • Lead the mechanical design of bespoke equipment and systems from concept to manufacture
  • Deliver detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, and supporting documentation using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time delivery and adherence to quality standards
  • Work collaboratively with production, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure designs are practical and optimised for manufacture
  • Take ownership of design reviews, risk assessments, and compliance checks
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers
  • Engage with suppliers to specify and source components for custom-built assemblies
  • Maintain accurate design records and documentation for full traceability
  • Contribute to product testing, verification, and continuous improvement initiatives

Essential Criteria - Senior Mechanical Design Engineer:

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a mechanical or manufacturing design role
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD, with proven ability to produce accurate and detailed technical drawings
  • Excellent understanding of mechanical systems, metal fabrication, and production processes
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple design projects and meet demanding deadlines
  • HNC/HND or higher in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (degree preferred)

The Opportunity: This is a senior-level position within a well-established and growing engineering organisation. The successful candidate will join a business that values technical excellence, innovation, and teamwork-offering long-term career development, modern design tools, and the opportunity to work on industry-leading engineering projects.
