Senior Mechanical Engineer - Rotating Equipment / Energy Projects
We are working with a leading international engineering consultancy, recognised for its technical expertise in delivering major power generation and energy transition projects across the UK and Europe. With a growing portfolio in thermal, renewable and low-carbon infrastructure, their Stockport office is seeking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong rotating plant experience to strengthen their delivery capability.
This is a key senior hire for an engineer who wants to take real ownership on complex, high-value energy projects while operating within a highly specialised, consultancy environment.
The Role - Senior Mechanical Engineer (Rotating Plant)
You will act as a technical authority on rotating machinery, providing engineering assurance across concept, design, procurement and commissioning phases.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Leading mechanical design input for turbines, compressors, pumps and auxiliary systems
- Reviewing OEM specifications, P&IDs, datasheets and supplier proposals
- Delivering technical due diligence, feasibility studies and performance assessments
- Interfacing directly with clients, OEMs and EPC contractors
- Providing engineering leadership within multi-disciplinary project teams
- Supporting and mentoring junior engineers, contributing to technical development
What You'll Bring
To be successful, you should have:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
- Minimum 10 years' experience within power generation, energy, process or heavy industry
- Strong technical background in rotating equipment and balance-of-plant systems
- Experience in consultancy, Owner's Engineer or EPC project environments
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage clients and influence outcomes
Desirable Credentials:
- Chartered status (or working towards)
- Experience in CCGT, CHP, biomass, waste-to-energy or industrial energy assets
- Exposure to advisory, lender's technical due diligence or owner's engineering roles
