Job description

Vickerstock are working in partnership with a food production firm on the appointment of an Environmental Officer.

As an Environmental Officer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of all environmental related activities along with a series of environmental and sustainability-based projects.

In your new role:

  • Ensuring full compliance with the site EPA licence and managing all related communications with relevant external agencies
  • Overseeing the operation, performance, cost management, reporting, and staffing of the onsite Effluent Treatment Plant
  • Leading the site energy and resource team to meet energy, water, and carbon reduction targets through measurement, analysis, and reporting activities
  • Capturing all pertinent data related to effluent, energy, water, waste, and sustainability measures, and formatting this data to create KPIs for reporting purposes
  • Maintaining and enhancing the ISO50001 Energy Management and ISO14001 Environmental Management systems on site
  • Conducting site energy and environmental audits to identify opportunities for improvement and enhance climate change resilience
  • Coordinating all waste management practices on site in alignment with group objectives
  • Collaborating with the wider group environmental team on upcoming sustainability projects and strategies
  • Promoting and managing excellent relationships with suppliers and other service partners, including contractors

What you will need to succeed:

  • A relevant third level Environmental/Engineering qualification
  • Minimum of two years' experience in a similar role
  • Audit experience and the ability to interact comfortably with governing bodies
  • Relationship builder capable of working within a large operational team
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and environmental engineering techniques, managing large datasets, report writing, and relevant legislation
  • Excellent IT skills, including proficient use of the MS Office suite, particularly Excel
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team is essential

Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):

  • Food production experience preferred
