Job description

Vickerstock are working in partnership with a well-established distribution and manufacturing organisation to recruit a Health & Safety Manager.

As Health & Safety Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining robust health, safety, and environmental systems across a range of operations. This is a hands-on, operationally focused role, working closely with site teams, drivers, and management to ensure safety standards are embedded into everyday working practices while maintaining full legislative compliance.

In your new role:

  • Develop, implement, and continually improve Health & Safety policies, procedures, and management systems in line with current legislation
  • Carry out comprehensive risk assessments across depots, processing facilities, manufacturing, packaging, and distribution activities
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards, drive corrective actions, and promote continuous improvement
  • Lead accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, producing clear reports with preventive and corrective action plans
  • Promote and embed a positive safety culture across all levels of the organisation
  • Deliver or coordinate H&S training including manual handling, fire safety, plant operation, emergency response, and dust-related risks
  • Support managers and supervisors in reinforcing behavioural safety and safe working practices
  • Maintain compliance with environmental and safety regulations, including waste management, air quality, and product storage requirements
  • Liaise with external bodies such as the HSE, local authorities, insurers, and auditors
  • Maintain accurate H&S records, training matrices, inspection logs, and performance data
  • Prepare and present regular H&S performance reports to senior management
  • Lead Health & Safety meetings and contribute to wider operational and quality audits

What you will need to succeed:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Experience in a Health & Safety role within logistics, manufacturing, bulk materials, or another high-risk environment
  • Working knowledge of safety regulations in the UK and Ireland
  • Knowledge of auditing, risk assessments, and incident management
  • IT and numeracy skills (MS Office)
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, ability to engage stakeholders at all levels

Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):

  • Degree in Health & Safety, Quality, or a related discipline
  • Experience of environmental monitoring programmes (dust, noise, air quality)
  • Prior experience auditing against ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001
  • Other relevant Health & Safety certifications
