Job description

Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading specialist engineering firm on the appointment of a Health, Safety & Environmental Manager.

This is a senior, hands-on HSE leadership role supporting manufacturing and assembly facilities, where you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving robust Health, Safety & Environmental systems. Working closely with operational teams, project delivery functions, and senior leadership, you will ensure HSE considerations are embedded at every stage - from fabrication and assembly through to site installation.

You will also lead and develop the HSE team, promote behavioural safety, and act as a key liaison across facilities, projects, and client stakeholders to ensure full compliance with legal, ISO, and client requirements.

In your new role:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain HSE policies, procedures, and management systems aligned with legal, ISO, and client standards
  • Lead HSE compliance across manufacturing and assembly operations, ensuring safe fabrication, modularisation, and installation activities
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, embedding behavioural safety and innovative best practice approaches
  • Conduct and oversee risk assessments, site inspections, audits, and compliance monitoring across multiple facilities
  • Lead investigations into incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions
  • Collaborate with project delivery teams and client representatives to ensure HSE requirements are integrated into planning and execution
  • Act as the primary HSE liaison for facilities, providing visible on-site support and expert guidance
  • Develop and lead a team of Health & Safety Officers, including recruitment, mentoring, training, and performance management
  • Allocate HSE resources effectively across projects and sites to ensure consistent oversight
  • Monitor regulatory compliance and ensure environmental standards, including waste and sustainability requirements, are met
  • Analyse HSE data and performance metrics, preparing reports and driving improvements based on trends
  • Promote strong cross-functional communication to embed a positive, accountable safety culture

What you will need to succeed:

  • 5+ years' experience in an HSE role within a Manufacturing or Engineering environment
  • Relevant Health and Safety qualifications (NEBOSH, etc)
  • Experience leading, developing, and managing HSE teams
  • Experience implementing and maintaining ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems
  • Working knowledge of current HSE legislation and compliance frameworks
  • Experience implementing and managing Health & Safety systems and practices across multiple sites
  • Experience in carrying out investigations, audits and reporting

Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):

  • Familiarity with digital HSE management systems and tools
  • Experience with Environmental and Sustainability initiatives (e.g., waste management, carbon footprint reduction)
  • Experience in delivering internal HSE training
