Vickerstock are proud to be Recruitment Partners working alongside our leading Food Manufacturing client based in Cookstown, with the appointment of a Laboratory Manager for

Reporting to the Site Technical Manager the Laboratory Manager will be responsible for leading a group of technicians who perform testing within an Analytical Chemistry Lab along with review of the results to ensure compliance to industry standards.

A typical day as Laboratory Manager:

The position has responsibility for people management, seamless partnership with teams supporting other stakeholders within the food production facility, collaborating with the site stakeholders to understand testing needs and define testing plans, providing work direction to analysts, work prioritization, data and report review, and leading lab improvement projects.

  • Perform detailed technical and quality review and approval of lab Lims entries and reports.
  • Author, review and/or approve laboratory reports, test methods, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Lead quality system and ensure compliance to department processes of team.
  • Manage department metrics and own/drive countermeasures when needed.
  • Provide support for quality activities including Out of Specification investigations, CAPAs, audits and inspections.
  • Lead lab improvement projects with a focus on improving retail and legislative compliance and increasing operational efficiency.
  • Manage change by developing materials and facilitating meetings to gain employee feedback, inform employees, influence behaviour, drive decisions, and set policies.
  • Managing master data, including creation, updates, and deletion.
  • Complete quality assurance analysts on all testing and trend data to foreshadow emerging trends.
  • Commissioning and decommissioning of data sets.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership skills in defining test plans, data interpretation, and providing technical recommendations to project teams.
  • Quality, reliability, or other regulated industry experience.
  • Carry out Gap analysis on industry standards.

Your essential ingredients:

  • Degree or equivalent in Food Science / Applied Science, or related discipline
  • 3 years' proven experience in a similar role.
  • Successful track record of developing a lean culture and delivering process improvements.
  • Strong technical skill set and have a track record of delivery against quality / food safety requirements.
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Methodical/organised approach to work, accurate record keeping and attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a commercial laboratory environmental
  • Tertiary level education in microbiology
  • Experience in completion of RCA or CAPA's.
